David Herman Severn, 77, of O’Fallon, IL, born September 11, 1939, in Carrollton, KY passed away peacefully on March 22, 2017 at his home with his family by his side.
David retired from the federal government after 27+ years as a Fund’s Manager at Defense Commercial Communications Office (DECCO). Prior to that, he served 22+ years in the US Air Force where he retired as a MSgt. During his AF career, he was a POW and was awarded the Bronze Star and two George Washington Freedom Awards. David also graduated with honors from SIUE with an MBA in History and Political Science. His first love was God where he devoted his life to sharing & living by the word of God. David was a member of Spring Valley Baptist Church in Shiloh, IL and had a passion for attending church. He was very devoted to his wife (his “pretty girl”), children, and grandchildren and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Jefferson and Amanda Severn, (nee Kleaving); four sisters and four brothers.
He is survived by his wife, Teresa Severn, (nee Melton); six children, Karen (Clyde) Wheat, III of Belleville, IL, Joanne Mackie of New York, NY, Alicia Hanna of O’Fallon, IL, Renee (Jerome) Smith, Jr. of Richmond, VA, 1st Lt. Curtis Glass of Wichita, KS, and David J. Severn of O’Fallon, IL; one sister, Emma Severn; one brother, Arnold (Kitty) Severn; six grandchildren and one grandchild on the way.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 am– 12:00 pm and funeral service at 12:00 pm on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at Spring Valley Baptist Church, 522 Maple St., Shiloh, IL 62269.
Graveside service will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, March 27, 2017 at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, 2900 Sheridan Rd, St. Louis, MO 63125 with Pastor Jerold Darnell officiating.
