Obituary for Marie Alice Lyons (Lafferty)

Marie Alice Lyons nee Laferty, 88, of New Baden, IL went to be with her lord Saturday, October 7, 2017. She was born October 4, 1929 in Marival, Saskatchewan, Canada.

Marie was involved in many organizations, she was a member of St. George Catholic Church in New Baden, IL, Our Lady Queen of Peace in Belleville, IL the Women’s Auxiliary of the American Legion of New Baden, IL. She worked at the Scott Air Force Base bowling alley on Scott Air Force Base ran and coached youth bowling. She also ran the kitchen at the New Baden American Legion for many years. Marie loved to play cards and bingo with friends, watch game shows and cheer for her favorite team the St. Louis Cardinal’s. Marie and George traveled and lived in many places with their family through George’s service to The United States Air Force. Marie and George retired in New Baden, IL in 1972.

She was preceded by her parents; Alexander and Victoria Laferty nee Flammound, husband; George H. Lyons Sr., 2 brothers; Armond Laferty and Tom Laferty.

Surviving are her three children; Yvette (Mark) Dulle of New Baden, IL, Victoria (Gary) Noll of Belleville, IL, and George H. Lyons Jr. (Anita Manley) of Mascoutah, IL. six grandchildren; Sasha Courtney, Bradley Dulle, Anthony Dulle, Chelsea Lyons. Danielle Lyons, and Taylor Lyons. 2 great-grandchildren; Brooke Dulle and Carson Graves. sisters; Emily Pearson of Alberta, Canada and Yvette Tremblay of Moosejaw, Saskatchewan, Canada, and special friend Michelle Lyons.

The family requests memorials may be made to the New Baden American Legion 105 E. Illinois Street, New Baden, IL 62265. Condolences may be extended to the family online at www.schildknechtfh.com.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at Schildknecht Funeral Home, 301 South Lincoln Avenue, O’Fallon, IL 62269 and from 9:00 am – 10:00 am on Thursday, October 12, 2017 at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at 10:00 am on Thursday, October 12, 2017 with Fr. Gene Neff officiating.

Burial will follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, 2900 Sheridan, St. Louis County, MO.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Schildknecht Funeral Home.
