Doris Anne Barnsley, nee Bradley, age 82, of O'Fallon, IL passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 23, 2016 at the Colonnade Senior Living Center in O'Fallon, IL after battling Alzheimer's dementia.
Doris was born in Rockport, MA to the late Major William and Edith Bradley, nee Koch. Her family later relocated to Townsend, MA. She attended multiple high schools as her father changed stations with the Army.
After high school, Doris was a Barbizon Modeling School student in New York City. She then went to Fitchburg State Teachers College and became an elementary school teacher. She was a proud Marine wife, a fierce mama bear to her four sons and a loving Nana to her nine grandchildren.
Doris was a dedicated and capable DIYer, making every house they lived in a home. She would repurpose everything in typical frugal Yankee fashion. She loved dancing and enjoyed watching Dancing with the Stars.
Her ancestors helped found Gloucester, Massachussettes in the 1630's, and she was excited to be a member of the Cahokia Mound Chapter of Daughter of the American Revolution. She loved dogs and was a steady supporter of a local animal rescue league. Doris made the best fish chowder on the planet.
Doris had a wicked smart sense of humor, a girlish giggle and a smile to light up a room. She never missed a birthday, anniversary or special occasion. Above all, her sons and her grandchildren were her life.
Doris is survived by her four sons, William of Sturbridge, MA, Kerry of Concord, NH, Brian of Swansea, IL and Kevin of NYC, NY; nine grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
